about

A low note core choir made up of 6 baritone saxophonists and 6 bass trombonists featuring many guest instrumentalists as well. 4 original compositions, 1 Stravinsky arrangement, 1 Ellington arrangement, and original compositions by Justin Mullens and Jade Synstelien.

A siphonophore is a bioluminescent deep sea creature that appears to be a single organism. Upon closer inspection, each specimen is found to be a colony composed of many highly specialized individual animals acting together as one cohesive organism. Bass Trombonists and baritone saxophonists normally play highly specialized singular roles within an ensemble. The idea here is to create a colony of them working together as a siphonophore to form a new sound from the depths of the bass clef. I hope you enjoy this recording. Thank you for listening! Max
